Rena Butler is a multi-faceted artist based in New York whose work as a dancer, choreographer, and teacher has been experienced in Europe, Asia, South America, and the United States. Rena's class is inspired by her eclectic experiences in dancing with such companies as Kyle Abraham/Abraham.In.Motion, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, Manuel Vignoulle/M-Motions, David Dorfman Dance, The Kevin Wynn Collection, and more. She applies this diverse perspective to her own class regimen. Rena's movement style is derived from her continued practices of contemporary modern and classical ballet, Kung Fu, Hip Hop, Latin Ballroom, and Post-Modern influences. The beginning warm-up sequence focuses on body strengthening, the fluidity and articulation of the spine & the extremities, while simultaneously grounding the pelvis and core in connection with the floor. The class then develops into inventive, challenging, and exhilarating exercises. Each student is challenged not only physically, but mentally as they are also guided by full-bodied, task-based improvisational activities. Students will experience an athletically charged class sprinkled with gestural details, daring floor work, and phrases personalized to help each artist grow in their individuality and uniqueness.
